This workshop aims to bring together researchers and students interested in Astroinformatics, the interdisciplinary field that combines astronomy with data science, machine learning, and information technology. The objective is to explore the development of tools and essential computational methods for the automated discovery of knowledge in the era of large astronomical surveys

Call for papers

We cordially invite researchers, professionals, and students to submit their work for the Workshop on Astroinformatics, which will be held in the framework of JCC 2026 at the University of Talca, Chile, from November 10 to 12, 2026. This Workshop focused on Astroinformatics aims to explore the development of tools and computational methods necessary to manage the transition from collecting terabytes to exabytes of data in the era of large surveys. We will accept proposals that address the intersection of astronomy with data science, machine learning, and information technologies, with the goal of fostering the automated discovery of knowledge in the field.

The Workshop will provide an informal setting to discuss:

  • Key methodologies in data science, including classification in the era of big astronomical surveys.
  • Advanced techniques such as anomaly detection, clustering and time series analysis to process information of large-scale astronomical surveys (such as the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope, the Southern Photometric Local Universe Survey and the Chilean Cluster Galaxy Evolution Survey among others).
  • The importance of astroinformatics in education (data literacy) and the preservation of historical astronomical records through digitization.

Important dates

  • Paper Submission Deadline: August 3rd, 2026
  • Notification of Acceptance: August 17th, 2026
  • Final Version (Camera-Ready): August 24th, 2026
